Helms would have us believe that artists, who would apply to and get funded by the NEA are making a bundle off the government for their "smut." Artists sacrifice their material values for the sake of following their dreams and greater funding and an open atmosphere would only allow them to find new problems to address in their art while continuing to "follow their bliss."1 I am proposing that we all become artists, not necessarily professionally, but spiritually. Art has never been much of a profession.
