There were no restaurants or grocery stores or gas stations but every speck of land was cultivated to grow tall corn. Nothing native was growing anywhere. We drove for a mile out of our way to get to a little grocery store that was closed. A baseball game was happening behind the store. The people seemed, by their cars and dress, pretty well off. There was something very high-tech about this world. The corn fields were accented by giant sprinklers.
